Does God Accept Me as I Am? | 2 Corinthians 12:9 | UAMEZ Church

Watch this message

If you have stayed away from church because you feel you need to get your life together first, this is for you: what is God's grace, and does it reach you right now? Pastor Kaloma Smith says grace does not wait for you to clean yourself up. Like the father who ran to his son in the parable, God meets you where you are, and his grace is enough for what he has not taken away. In this sermon, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on 2 Corinthians 12:9 and shows from Paul, the prodigal son and the thief on the cross that grace meets people outside the church walls, in their first hour and their last. Questions this sermon answers Do I have to get my life together before I come to God? No. The father in Luke 15 ran to his son while he still smelled like the pig pen, and hugged him before asking a single question. Why hasn't God taken away my struggle? Paul asked three times for his thorn to be removed, and God's answer was that his grace was enough and his power shows up in weakness. Is God's grace only for people who go to church? No. He says the church does not own grace, and grace finds people in the hospital, the house and the street. How is God's grace different from how people treat us? People keep a record of wrongs, and God promises to remember our sins no more, and he says it takes more strength to forgive than to hold a grudge. Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9, Luke 15:11-32, Luke 23:39-43, Psalm 139:7 Chapters 0:00 What is God's grace? 2 Corinthians 12:9 2:55 When God doesn't take the thorn away 3:47 Why grace makes us humble and grateful 5:16 The prodigal son: grace doesn't wait for you to clean up 10:37 Grace is bigger than the church building 13:54 How God forgives vs how we hold grudges Join us Sundays at 10 AM PT, 3549 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306, or live at youtube.com/@uamez Plan your visit: uamez.com Instagram: instagram.com/uamezchurch Facebook: facebook.com/uamezchurch #UAMEZChurch #GodsGrace #2Corinthians

God Already Moved | 2 Kings 7 | Rev. Kaloma Smith | UAMEZ Church | Palo Alto, CA

Watch this message

You've been doing the math at 3 in the morning. You've been sitting at the gate of something that feels like it stopped working — a job, a relationship, a situation you've been waiting on God to move in. You've called the prophet in. You brought God into the room. And then doubted what God said when God showed up. This message is for you. In 2 Kings 7, four lepers are sitting at the gate of a besieged city. They have internal issues. The city behind them is starving. The enemy is camped in front of them. And they make one decision: we're dying either way, so let's move toward the maybe. What they don't know is that God had already moved. While they were sitting at the gate, the Lord was emptying the Syrian camp. While the king was tearing his robe. While the captain was running the logistics. While the mothers were grieving. The breakthrough was already happening — they just hadn't moved toward it yet. Your move doesn't make the gospel true. Your move makes you a witness to a gospel that was already true. 📖 2 Kings 7:3 | "Why are we sitting here until we die?" 🕊️ University AME Zion Church (UAMEZ) — Palo Alto, CA 📍 3549 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto | Sundays at 10 AM 🌐 uamez.com

A Mother's Prayer for Her Child | Mark 7:24-30 | UAMEZ Church

Watch this message

Praying for your child and hearing nothing back? A mother's prayer has more power than you think. Pastor Kaloma teaches that a mother's prayer can outlast God's silence and refuse to take the first answer as the last one. The Syrophoenician woman walked into a room she was not invited to, kept asking after Jesus pushed back, and went home on his word before she saw her daughter healed. In this sermon, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on Mark 7:24-30, preached on Mother's Day 2026, and shows how this mother's bold, stubborn faith still speaks to parents praying for their kids today. Questions this sermon answers What does Mark 7:24-30 teach about prayer? A desperate mother kept asking Jesus after his first answer, and he healed her daughter because of how she answered him. How do I keep praying for my child when nothing changes? Stay at the altar, because persistent prayer can outlast years of silence and God answers in his time. Does God answer a mother's prayer for a grown child? Pastor Kaloma says yes from his own life: his mother kept praying for him through three high schools and years away from church. Do I need proof before I trust God's answer? No. The mother walked home on a word from Jesus and found her daughter healed when she got there. Scripture: Mark 7:24-30 Chapters 0:00 Heaven cannot hide from a mother 0:33 Mark 7:24-30: the Syrophoenician woman 1:47 Praying for kids in a heavy world 4:07 Jochebed, Hannah and Mary: mothers who prayed 6:44 A mother's audacity 12:31 A mother's tenacity in prayer 19:12 Faith before proof: you only need a crumb Join us Sundays at 10 AM PT, 3549 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306, or live at youtube.com/@uamez Plan your visit: uamez.com Instagram: instagram.com/uamezchurch Facebook: facebook.com/uamezchurch #UAMEZChurch #MothersPrayer #Mark7

What to Do in Your Wilderness Season | Matthew 4 | UAMEZ Church

Watch this message

If a layoff, anxiety or a marriage that only looks fine has put you in a wilderness season, you probably read it as proof that God left. Pastor Kaloma Smith says God's Spirit can lead you into a hard season to build you, and the fight there is over your assumptions about God. Jesus already walked through the wilderness for you, so you do not face it alone. In this sermon, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on Matthew 4:1-11 and shows how the devil went after three assumptions we all carry about God during Jesus' 40 days in the wilderness. Questions this sermon answers What should you do during your wilderness season? Get the Word in you before the hard day comes, refuse to fight alone, and bring your assumptions about God to God. What does a wilderness season produce in you? God is a builder, and the Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to build him up, which is how God can use a hard season in your life too. Scripture: Matthew 4:1-11; James 1:13; Psalm 91:11-12 Chapters 0:00 Opening prayer 0:58 Built for the wilderness 3:55 Nobody optimizes for the bad day 6:25 Why the Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness 14:21 Three assumptions the devil targets 25:18 Jesus walked through it for you 29:12 What to do in your wilderness season Join us Sundays at 10 AM PT, 3549 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306, or live at youtube.com/@uamez Plan your visit: uamez.com Instagram: instagram.com/uamezchurch Facebook: facebook.com/uamezchurch #UAMEZChurch #WildernessSeason #Matthew4

How to Grow Your Faith in Jesus | 2 Peter 1:5-8 | UAMEZ Church

Watch this message

Work, workouts and even vacations can leave you drained, and if your faith feels stuck, you may be asking how to grow your faith in Jesus. Second Peter lays out a ladder that starts with faith and ends with love: virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness and brotherly affection in between. You build it over a lifetime, like a house, and you do not build it alone. In this sermon, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on 2 Peter 1:5-8 and walks through each step of spiritual growth as one part of building a house. It was preached in May 2024. Questions this sermon answers How do I grow my faith in Jesus? Keep adding to it: start with the faith you have, then build virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection and love. What if my faith is not perfect? No one's is. Faith can start as believing more than you doubt, and it firms up like concrete as you see God work. Why should I read the same Bible verses again? Knowledge of God is built in layers, like taping, mudding and painting a wall, and verses keep opening up as you return to them. Is self-control in the Christian life a loss? Pastor Kaloma says it protects you, the way insulation keeps the weather out of a house. Scripture: 2 Peter 1:5-8 Chapters 0:00 Reach, care and grow: our mission 2:11 Reading 2 Peter 1:5-8 3:24 What drains us and what restores us 7:08 Why growing in Christ matters 12:55 Faith, virtue and knowledge: building the house 22:59 Self-control, steadfastness, godliness and love 36:16 The climb to the mountaintop of faith Join us Sundays at 10 AM PT, 3549 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306, or live at youtube.com/@uamez Plan your visit: uamez.com Instagram: instagram.com/uamezchurch Facebook: facebook.com/uamezchurch #UAMEZChurch #GrowInFaith #2Peter1

How to Be Still When You Are Exhausted | Psalm 46:10 | UAMEZ Church

Watch this message

You took the vacation and you're still tired by Tuesday. Be still and know that I am God is an invitation for exhausted people in a nonstop Silicon Valley week. Pastor Kaloma Smith says Christian stillness means stopping and turning your attention to God, which is different from emptying your mind. Prayer is more than thanks and requests, because God wants a relationship with you. In this sermon, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on Psalm 46:10 and shows how a few still minutes with God can change the way you pray. He preached it on February 18, 2024, the first Sunday of a Lent series on prayer. Questions this sermon answers What does be still and know that I am God mean? Pastor Smith says it means stopping and focusing on God, which is different from the emptying practiced in some Eastern traditions. Why am I still exhausted after time off? He points to rising costs and heavier workloads, and admits he came back from a long sabbatical tired again too. What is the main goal of prayer? He says thanks and asking are part of prayer, but the main goal is a relationship with God. How do I start being still? He asks people to put the phone down and sit quietly with God for two minutes a day. Scripture: Psalm 46:10 Chapters 0:00 Praying through Lent together 0:48 Give up time, not sugar, for Lent 2:16 Why join a small group 3:05 Be still and know that I am God 4:14 Why we are more exhausted than ever 10:45 What biblical stillness means 20:24 God is personal: a two-minute practice Join us Sundays at 10 AM PT, 3549 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306, or live at youtube.com/@uamez Plan your visit: uamez.com Instagram: instagram.com/uamezchurch Facebook: facebook.com/uamezchurch #UAMEZChurch #BeStill #Psalm46

Do Miracles Still Happen? | 1 Kings 18 | UAMEZ Church

Watch this message

In a place where we trust our degrees, our jobs and our five-year plans more than God, it is fair to ask whether miracles still happen. Elijah stood alone against 450 prophets of Baal and expected God to answer with fire, and God did. Pastor Smith says our expectation of God grows as our relationship with him grows, and God responds to people who trust him enough to act. In this sermon, preached in January 2024 in the Reset series, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on 1 Kings 18 and challenges believers to reset what they expect God to do. Questions this sermon answers Do miracles still happen today? Pastor Smith says yes, and he describes seeing God heal people and bring financial breakthroughs. What does limping between two opinions mean? In 1 Kings 18:21 Elijah calls out people who keep one foot with God and one foot somewhere else, like praying on Monday and trusting only your bank account on Tuesday. How do you build confidence in God? By walking with him over time, because faith that expects miracles is built by years of seeing what God can do. What is a miracle? His working definition is God giving exponential results for human action, the way the Red Sea opened when Moses showed up. Scripture: 1 Kings 18:20-39 Chapters 0:00 Resetting our expectations of God 0:48 49ers, Lions and different expectations 3:56 Trusting jobs and plans more than God 8:02 Limping between two opinions 16:29 Building confidence in God 25:41 God answers with fire 30:48 Invitation to follow Jesus Join us Sundays at 10 AM PT, 3549 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306, or live at youtube.com/@uamez Plan your visit: uamez.com Instagram: instagram.com/uamezchurch Facebook: facebook.com/uamezchurch #UAMEZChurch #Miracles #1Kings18

How to Put God First in a Busy Life | Daniel 6 | UAMEZ Church

Watch this message

If work has quietly become your first yes and faith fits into whatever time is left, this new year sermon asks how to put God first in a busy life. Daniel kept praying as he always had, even when it could cost him everything, because he knew God was his source. When your yes to God shows up in small daily choices, God fights the battles you cannot. In this sermon, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on Daniel 6:16-24, Daniel in the lions den, and shows what it means to reset your yes to God. It was preached on Jan 21, 2024, in the series Reset. Questions this sermon answers How do I put God first when work takes over? Start by asking what your faith life balance really looks like, and make your yes to God more than one hour on Sunday. What does Daniel in the lions den teach us? Daniel knew God was his source, lived his faith openly, and trusted God to shut the lions' mouths. How do people know I am a Christian? By your small actions during the week, such as refusing to gossip or lose your temper, more than by what you say. Should I fight my enemies or let God handle it? Daniel did not play politics against the men who set him up, and God dealt with them. Spend your energy trusting God instead. Scripture: Daniel 6:16-24 Chapters 0:00 A new year reset: Daniel 6:16-24 2:40 Work life balance and your first yes 5:34 Faith life balance: more than Sunday 11:15 Know your source and live it openly 23:07 Daniel in the lions den: God fights your battles 32:04 Reset your yes in 2024 Join us Sundays at 10 AM PT, 3549 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306, or live at youtube.com/@uamez Plan your visit: uamez.com Instagram: instagram.com/uamezchurch Facebook: facebook.com/uamezchurch #UAMEZChurch #PutGodFirst #Daniel6

How to Forgive Someone Who Hurt You | Genesis 45 | UAMEZ Church

Watch this message

New Year's resolutions fade fast, but if you want to know how to forgive someone who hurt you, a real reset starts in your heart. You forgive to get the weight off your own heart, whether or not the other person ever agrees or apologizes. Joseph let go of what his brothers did long before he saw them again, and that freed him for the bigger work God had for him. In this sermon, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on the story of Joseph and his brothers in Genesis and shows how forgiveness clears the way for what God has planned. Preached in January 2024 as Part 1 of the Reset series. Questions this sermon answers Why should I forgive someone who isn't sorry? Forgiveness is for your own heart and peace of mind, and their response is up to them. When did Joseph forgive his brothers? Long before they stood in front of him, because he kept doing his best as a slave and a prisoner instead of carrying bitterness. How is a reset different from a New Year's resolution? A resolution is a task, while a reset changes the heart that drives every task you take on. Why does bitterness hurt me more than the other person? It grows inside you and starts shaping your sleep and your decisions. Scripture: Genesis 45 (the story of Joseph and his brothers, Genesis 37-45) Chapters 0:00 Why New Year's resolutions fail 1:30 Why a reset starts with your heart 3:19 The story of Joseph and his brothers 7:33 How to forgive someone who hurt you 14:27 Your task is greater than their opinion 20:15 Called to help others 24:44 A prayer to reset your heart Join us Sundays at 10 AM PT, 3549 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306, or live at youtube.com/@uamez Plan your visit: uamez.com Instagram: instagram.com/uamezchurch Facebook: facebook.com/uamezchurch #UAMEZChurch #Forgiveness #Genesis45

How to Finish the Year Strong | Philippians 3:12-14 | UAMEZ Church

Watch this message

Once Thanksgiving passes, the year can slip away in parties and shopping, but if you want to know how to finish the year strong, this sermon says the last 30 days still count. Being pressed is how a grape becomes wine, so the hard seasons are shaping you. Stop living in the rearview mirror, and let Jesus be the fuel that carries you across the finish line. In this sermon, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on Philippians 3:12-14 and shows how to keep pressing when you feel worn out at the end of the year. It was preached on Nov 26, 2023. Questions this sermon answers How do I finish the year strong? Don't hand the last 30 days to distraction. Keep pressing with the same purpose you had all year, and trust God to do more with it. Why does life feel like it's pressing me? Like grapes pressed into wine, God uses hard seasons to push out what doesn't belong and make you more valuable. How do I stop living in the past? Paul says to forget what lies behind and strain toward what is ahead, so stop judging your life by your worst years. What do I do when I hit a wall? Like a marathoner at mile 20, slow down for a moment and let Jesus become your fuel to push through. Scripture: Philippians 3:12-14 Chapters 0:00 Don't waste the last 30 days of the year 2:55 Three keys to finish the race 4:20 What it means to be pressed 6:48 Temptation, deception and division 12:39 Don't let people define your worth 16:51 Accept people where they are 21:00 Forget what lies behind and press on Join us Sundays at 10 AM PT, 3549 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306, or live at youtube.com/@uamez Plan your visit: uamez.com Instagram: instagram.com/uamezchurch Facebook: facebook.com/uamezchurch #UAMEZChurch #FinishStrong #Philippians3

How to Let Go of the Past | Leviticus 25 | UAMEZ Church

Watch this message

If you keep pushing without ever resting, and old hurts still shape how you live, this sermon is about how to let go of the past. In Leviticus 25 God tells Israel to let the fields rest in the year of Jubilee, and he promises to provide at the very point of release. Pastor Smith says release is a moment and healing is a process, and you can give the past to God without being forced back into a painful reconciliation. In this sermon, preached in 2023 as the first message in a Year of Jubilee series, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on Leviticus 25:11-12 and 20-22 and shows what we need to release before healing can start. Questions this sermon answers How do you let go of the past as a Christian? Release it to God; you don't have to reconcile with someone who hurt you in order to set it down. Why can't I let go of things that weren't my fault? Some pain comes from things we reaped but never sowed, like a toxic family or a cruel comment, and God can free you from what it says about you. What should I release that I caused myself? Past mistakes, grudges and the need for perfection and control, which end up poisoning you more than the person you resent. Can you heal from church hurt? Yes. Pastor Smith shares that he left church for about ten years after seeing conflict at 18, and he urges people not to let church hurt keep them from God. Scripture: Leviticus 25:11-12, 20-22; Psalm 9:10; John 8:36 Chapters 0:00 Breaking chains and the year of Jubilee 1:39 Why fields need to rest 4:46 Are you running on empty? 7:39 Release comes before healing 9:48 Releasing what you didn't sow 17:44 Releasing grudges, perfectionism and control 30:08 God blesses you at the point of release Join us Sundays at 10 AM PT, 3549 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306, or live at youtube.com/@uamez Plan your visit: uamez.com Instagram: instagram.com/uamezchurch Facebook: facebook.com/uamezchurch #UAMEZChurch #LettingGo #Leviticus25

Why Did God Wrestle With Jacob? | Genesis 32:22-32 | UAMEZ Church

Watch this message

If you buried a dream years ago or feel ready to tap out, Jacob wrestling with God shows you how to keep praying. Jacob held on all night and would not let go until he was blessed, even though he came away limping. Your past does not cancel God's plan for you, and tenacious prayer can leave you bruised and blessed at the same time. In this sermon, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on Genesis 32:22-32 and shows what Jacob's night at the Jabbok river teaches about prayer that refuses to quit. Preached in July 2023 as Part 2 of the Transformational Prayer series. Questions this sermon answers Why did God wrestle with Jacob? Jacob was alone the night before facing Esau, and through the struggle God changed his name to Israel and gave him new strength. Does my past disqualify me from God's blessing? No. Jacob was the second son and a trickster, and God still had a plan for his life. What is tenacious prayer? It is prayer that keeps holding on through the midnight hours, like the widow in Jesus' parable who kept asking the judge for justice. Why did Jacob walk away limping? God turned his old strength into weakness and gave him a new identity, so he was bruised and blessed. Scripture: Genesis 32:22-32; Luke 18:1-8 Chapters 0:00 Tenacious prayer: Transformational Prayer Part 2 0:41 Genesis 32:22-32: Jacob wrestles at the Jabbok 2:13 Bible heroes who prayed through crisis 5:14 Who was Jacob?
