Your first Sunday

How does Sunday work for kids?

Sunday worship starts at 10:00 AM and ends at 11:30 AM.

Plan your first visit with kids
  1. Getting hereOur lot has about 50 spaces, including 5 accessible spaces. If it is full, park on Christine Drive. For drop-off, use the pathway into the courtyard.
  2. 9:45 AMWalk into the courtyard and tell a greeter it is your first visit. They will show you the Amazing Kids counter beside the main entrance. Check-in opens at 9:45 AM and takes about five minutes the first time. Ask the team what information they need and how to provide a mobile number where you can be reached.
  3. 10:00 AMWorship begins; Little Lambs and Promised Kids meet during the service. From the courtyard, the sanctuary entrance is on your right. There are no reserved seats and no steps on the way in.
  4. After worshipReturn to the same Amazing Kids counter for pickup, following the printed-tag policy in the safety section below. People often stay to talk in the courtyard afterward.

For parents

How do we keep your child safe?

Here is what we do, so you can check it.

Who is with my child?

Every Amazing Kids volunteer is background checked through Planning Center before serving. At least two screened adults are in the room at all times. Only screened adults enter an Amazing Kids room, including parents.

How does pickup work?

At check-in, you receive a printed tag. Bring it back to the Amazing Kids counter at pickup; we match it before releasing your child. Nobody collects a child without it. If you lose the tag, we ask to see your ID.

What if my child needs me?

We text the mobile number you give us and come find you. If your child needs the restroom, you take them. Our team does not take children to the restroom or change diapers.

What should we bring?

We do not serve snacks. Keep food, toys, games, and devices with you, and tell the team about any allergies at check-in.

When should I keep my child home?

If your child has had a fever, vomiting, or a new rash in the last 24 hours, please keep them home this week. A child who feels sick at home will feel sick here too, and the other families will thank you.

For little ones

Where is the Little House?

There is no staffed nursery. Babies, toddlers, and preschoolers stay with their adult. The Little House across the courtyard is a quieter, living-room-style space for feeding, changing, or taking a break from the noise. If your child gets overwhelmed by noise, you can stay with them here.

The service is shown on a screen, and a changing table is available. You can return to the sanctuary whenever you are ready. Strollers park on the left side of the sanctuary.

Common questions

What do parents ask before Sunday?

A few remaining questions. Arrival, activities, and pickup are covered in the walkthrough and safety sections above; babies and quieter-space options are in the Little House section.

Can I keep my child with me instead of checking them in?

Yes. Children are welcome to stay with you in worship instead of joining Amazing Kids. There is no separate teen program; teens worship with everyone else and can ask about serving on a team. Amazing Kids team members wear a blue Amazing Kids badge on a lanyard so you know who to ask for help.

Do you have Sunday School?

Amazing Kids is our Sunday morning program for kindergarten through 6th grade during the 10:00 AM service.

Beyond Sunday

What else is there for families?

Eleven volunteers serve on Amazing Kids. There are also ways to ask about baptism, a parent group, and serving with kids.

How do we ask about baptism?

UAMEZ offers infant baptism. Baptisms are usually held on the second Sunday from March through October. Please contact the church to confirm the next opportunity. If you want to talk about baptism for your child, read about baptism and how to get in touch. We will sit down with you first.

Around the corner

How is this children's ministry rooted in Palo Alto?

UAMEZ is a historically Black, multicultural church that has been in Palo Alto since 1918. Our Middlefield Road campus is a five-minute walk from Mitchell Park and the Magical Bridge Playground. If you're coming from elsewhere on the Peninsula, get directions to UAMEZ Church.

Questions are welcome
