In Exodus 16, Israel missed Egypt because hunger and memory lied to them: they remembered the pots of meat and forgot the brick quota that came from the same table. God's answer was bread from heaven they didn't recognize, a jar of manna kept so they would never forget, and his glory showing up in the very wilderness they feared. One month out of Egypt, the people said they wished they had died back there.
