Description
If scrolling past other people's trips and purchases leaves you anxious about what you don't have, this sermon asks what the Bible says about money. Money itself is neutral, and the Bible never asks every believer to take a vow of poverty. The danger is materialism, which crowds out God, feeds anxiety and can make you look down on people who have less. In this sermon, preached in 2022 in the series Living a Generous Life, Pastor Kaloma Smith of UAMEZ Church in Palo Alto, California preaches on Luke 16:13 and shows how chasing stuff gets in the way of loving God and people. Questions this sermon answers Is it wrong for a Christian to have money? No. Pastor Smith points to people like David, Solomon and Lydia and says what matters is how you use it. What does it mean that you cannot serve God and money? Money can't be your master, because when stuff becomes the center of your life there is little room left for God. Why does wanting more make me anxious? Comparing your life to what others have creates stress, and chasing things can make you miss the simple blessings God already gave you. How do I know if money is separating me from people? He asks whether all your friends share your income level and whether you avoid relatives because of what they have or don't have.
